About
Assemble After Dark is an independent personal blog about eating, drinking and gathering once the evening begins. I write from the guest's side of the table, with an interest in how a meal feels to the people sharing it.
I care about the space dinner can make in an ordinary week. A comfortable chair or a well-timed plate can give a conversation room to continue. Writing about those details helps me notice what I value in an evening, beyond whether the food looked good when it arrived.
The essays follow particular parts of a night out, from the first small bite to the decision to head home. I describe preferences as preferences and weave practical choices into observations about the room. Alcohol-free drinks belong here as naturally as any other order, and no single kind of evening is treated as the one everyone should want.
